Fifteen out-of-school youths (OSY) completed the Plumbing NC II course through the project of the Rotary Club of Waling-Waling Davao dubbed “Training on Plumbing: Skills That Make a Difference (Plumbing NC II Training)”. The graduation rites was held on December 21, 2017 at the Korea-Philippines Vocational Training Center in Buhisan, Tibungco.
The plumbing skills training is among the many community service projects sponsored by RCWWD that embody the Rotary Year 2017-2018 theme “Rotary: Making a Difference”. It was chaired by past president Remedios Calaguas.
RCWWD members graced the event that marked the success of the club’s endeavor. On behalf of RCWWD president Elisa Lapiña, president-elect Marilou Baarde congratulated all of the graduates for their determination to finish the program. Also present was club past president and DCWD director Ma. Luisa Jacinto who assured that RCWWD will continue to help more OSYs in the city.
The 20-day training program was designed to equip the beneficiaries with the basic know-how on plumbing to boost their employability skills. This project was carried out in partnership with the Davao City Water District (DCWD).
The beneficiaries were chosen from RCWWD’s adopted areas in Davao City. Their board, lodging, and other expenses were shouldered by the RCWWD, which made the completion of the vocational training possible. Meanwhile, DCWD subsidized the fees for the training that was provided by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
All the scholars were very thankful for being chosen to become part of the training program. With the financial support given by RCWWD and DCWD, they were given a chance to improve their way of life as they have already been equipped with the technical skills to look for decent employment. DCWD also ensured that it will monitor and extend assistance to the graduates as they seek employment.
