TAGUM CITY – Close to one thousand licensed professional teachers in Tagum attended the Seminar-Workshop on the Modern Research Practices in Education held last March 16-17, 2019 at the Atrium of the Tagum City Hall.
The implementation of the 2-day event which was spearheaded by the Public Education and Employment Services Office (PEESO) of the local government of Tagum (LGU) was the answer of the city’s local chief executive, Mayor Allan Rellon, to the calls made by the Tagumenyo teachers for aid in relation to their compliance of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training which is a mandated requirement for the renewal of their licenses.
The training, which had an equivalent of 12 CPD units, was offered for free by the LGU and the ground breaking initiative was facilitated by the Young Educators’ Convergence of SOCCSKSARGEN, Inc. (YECS).
Comprehensive discussions during the training were related to the current trends in research practices in education and were handled by Jonathan Madronero of Philippine Science High School – SRC, and Dr. Priscilla Marayag, the Dean of College of Teacher Education in General Santos City’s Holy Trinity College.
Mayor Rellon stated that the LGU, through the PEESO, will be conducting another training in June 2019 to complete the 15 units of CPD training which is what has been required by the newly released Implementing Rules and Regulation (IRR) to the 3-year old law.
The IRR provides that in-house trainings and capacity-building activities of government agencies and corporations, including LGUs and private employers shall be credited and considered as CPD compliance.
The requirement of CPD training units prior to the renewal of licenses of the professionals is enshrouded in Republic Act No. 10912, otherwise known as the Continuing Professional Development Act of 2016. Richi Gulle/ CIO-Tagum, with reports from Justine Catalan
