MCM’S ‘Alpha Batch’ Starts Semester with A Bang

It was a night worth remembering for the freshmen students of the newly opened Malayan Colleges Mindanao (MCM) as they were up for a great start for their semester.

Around 300 freshmen students were all in their Coachella inspired attires last August 14 as the MCM administration threw its first ever Rev Up Party — a night filled with music, dance, games and camaraderie.

Before the drop of the first beat, there were presentations from the different college departments. Along with the event are games and prizes prepared by the MCM administration. There was also a Rev Up Challenge and Lights Up Video Challenge wherein college departments were to present a creative video about their respective department.

A party will never be complete without awesome live performances. That night, Davao’s pride Nairud sa Wabad and local DJ Nikki Rose revved up the event that made it even more momentous.

Ramon Quinagon III, MCM Prefect of Discipline, said that the school took the time to prepare the event for these “Alpha Batch” as they are the starting base of the MCM.

“The Rev Up Party is our way of giving a treat for the freshmen. Let them have fun and enjoy the rest of the school year starting with this kind of event, more or less give them time to relax from the academic loads,” Quinagon said.

With students coming from different walks of life, Quinagon admits that it’s a tough challenge for the school since they were just weeks away from their first operation as a school.

“We hope to mold them into the Malayan way of studentry. MCM aims to provide a better kind of education,” Quinagon said.

The school prefect also said that MCM is a school that provides the students their freedom of expression, and provide the necessary tools to express themselves, not just through the manner of their dressing up, but also, their view with regards to their education.

Malayan Colleges Mindanao marked its first operation as a school last July 7 with over 1,200 students from the senior high school and college programs.

The school is known for its mechanical engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, industrial engineering, information technology, computer science, and entrepreneurship programs.

MCM is the first Mapua School to be opened outside from its Manila and Laguna campuses.
