Employees in the private and public sectors who suffer work-related sickness and injuries may now avail themselves of the bigger benefits from the Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC).
Albert Bantan, ECC Regional Extension Unit XI information officer, said during the Connect, Health and Wellness media forum on Friday that employees can enjoy the upgraded benefits under the Employees’ Compensation Program (ECP).
“We are here because we want to intensify the awareness of workers on their rights, benefits, and privileges under the ECP,” he added.
The ECP, is one of the flagship programs of the ECC which aims to assist workers who suffer work-related sickness or injury resulting to disability of death.
“There is a need to continually improve benefits under the Employees’ Compensation Program (ECP) to make them more responsive to the welfare and development needs of occupationally disabled workers,” said Bantan.
Bantan said that the Social Security System (SSS) and the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) increase the monthly income benefits for non-work-related contingencies, such increases shall be automatically and simultaneously applicable to the monthly income benefits for employment-related contingencies under PD No. 626, as amended, so as to maintain the fifteen percent (15%) and twenty percent (20%) differentials for SSS and GSIS pensioners, respectively
Executive Order (EO) No. 55, signed by Mr. President Rodrigo Duterte last year, which addressed ECP’s quest to provide a better compensation benefit package to Filipino workers.
The EO, he added, also hiked the amount of reimbursement for physical therapy sessions under EC medical benefits in the private sector also rose from P65 to maximum P500 per session.
Moreover, the temporary total disability (TTD) benefits, which are given to workers who loss of income due to inability to work after a work-related accident, was also hiked from a minimum daily income benefit of P10 to P110, and from a maximum daily income benefit of P200 to P480.
With the new increase, Bantan said a worker who suffers from TTD may now receive a possible maximum amount of P960 per day, which is a combined amount of benefits that can be provided by Social Security System and ECC.
The Carer’s allowance of persons with work-related disabilities (PWRD), which is a supplemental pension provided to EC permanent disability pensioners, also hiked up P1, 000 from the original P575 per month, Bantan also noted.
A monthly pension granted to beneficiaries of an employee who dies as a result of sickness or injuring arising out or in the course of employment will receive P30, 000 from P20,000 death benefit.
The ECC is a government agency mandated by law to provide meaningful and appropriate compensation to workers in the private and public sector in the event of work-related contingencies.
According to the EO, SSS and GSIS are hereby directed to appropriate and release the amounts necessary to cover the increase in benefits set forth in the preceding section from the reserves of the relevant SIF that the SSS and GSIS administer, respectively, under the ECP.
