Davao City is 99.9% ready to host the 2019 Palarong Pambansa slated on April 27 to May 2.
Department of Education (DepEd) Davao Region spokesperson and information officer Janielito “Dodong” Atillo made the announcement on Wednesday, March 13, during the AFP-PNP Press Corps briefing held at the Royal Mandaya Hotel.
Atillo said that after a series of evaluation, the city is virtually ready for the biggest national sports conclave devoted for elementary and secondary athletes.
“The .1 percent is just a matter of addressing minor issues,” Atillo said.
The DepEd is currently working on the beautification and cleanliness of the venues, taking charge of the delegation’s documents and requirements, and preparation of billeting quarters while the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Davao City is incharge with the security measures and other logistics.

Philippines (UP) Mindanao is still being rushed for the swimming competition.
“Hypothetically, if not, Tagum City is always ready to accommodate,” Atillo said.
Sports Development Division-City Mayors Office (SDD-CMO) head Mikey Aportadera, in a separate interview, said the swimming pool is currently being prepared. They will disclose its availability as soon as there is already a go signal.
University of Mindanao (UM)’s Olympic-sized rubberized track oval will serve as the venue for athletics while the same size oval in UP is currently under construction.
The back-to-back hosting of the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa), according to Atillo, was referred as baseline for organizing the Palarong Pambansa.
Atillo, meanwhile, reminded each contingent to monitor members of its delegation to avoid another incident involving a death of 12 year-old volleyball from Davao Oriental.
