CTOO issues reminders to ‘Araw’ revellers

The City Tourism and Operations Office (CTOO) has issued a few reminders for Dabawenyos who will watch the 82nd Araw ng Davao Parada Davaoeño on March 16.

The Parada, the annual showpiece of colorful floats, buntings and civic organizations, will formally begin at 6:00am starting at Roxas Avenue to Rizal Park in San Pedro Street.

CTOO head Generose Tecson, on Thursday, March 14, reminded attendees to bring lots of water, bring hat, fan, umbrella, candies and crackers to avoid hunger dizziness and fainting.

“Bring extra shirts and clothes, and find shady spot to watch the parade,” she said.

Tecson, however, urged participants to avoid littering and follow proper waste disposal.

Bringing infants and small children in the parade is also discouraged as well as wearing uniform of or resembling law enforcement personnel like the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) to avoid confusion and possible apprehension.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director Police Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum, on the other hand, reminded the public of the ‘No Backpack’ policy during the Parada Davaoeño.

“Please don’t bring backpacks, big bags and boxes. Maabala lang kayo,” Tagum said.

Bringing even small bags which can carry grenades are also being discouraged by the authorities.

Tagum, meanwhile, said they will not perform body frisking as they are going to deploy metal detectors during the parade.
