TRILLANES IN DAVAO To face libel raps of Pulong Duterte, Mans Carpio

Opposition Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV will be in in Davao City today, January 15,  to attend the arraignment of his case filed by Paulo “Pulong” Z. Duterte, eldest son of President Rodrigo R. Duterte, who resigned as city vice mayor and is now running for House representative of Davao City’s First District, and lawyer Manases “Mans” Carpio, husband of Mayor Sara D. Carpio.

Davao Regional Trial Court (RTC)  Branch 54 Judge Melinda Alconcel-Dayanghirang set the arraignment at 8:30 a.m. today for the libel charges.

A source who refused to be named bared that Trillanes is set to arrive in the city early in the morning and will immediately go back to Manila around 5:00 p.m.

Last December, Dayanghirang issued a warrant of arrest for the counts of libel filed by Duterte and Carpio with a total bail of P96,000.

Trillanes immediately posted bail at the Pasay City RTC and paid the recommended total bail.

The case stemmed from Trillanes’ alleged defamatory statement in a radio interview last year against the complainants.

The complainants alleged that in an interview of DYAB Cebu teleradyo on September 8, 2017, the senator dragged their names on the extortion franchise issue of Uber, that they conspired with Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board 7 regional director Ahmed Cuison.

The complaint said Trillanes was not contented with the Uber issue, he also involved their names in the corruption and extortion issue in the Road Board and Department of Public Works and Highways.

The accusers’ complaints  were said to be attested to by a certain Oscar Canino who executed an affidavit saying he heard and watched the interview of Trillanes.

Trillanes has yet to comment on the arrest order. His office said that the senator, as of writing is consulting his legal counsel for their next actions.

In February last year, the staunch Duterte critic was declared “persona non-grata” by the Davao City government for his remarks that the city is “the most dangerous city in the Philippines.”
