Defending champion The Royal Mandaya Hotel-CMO De La Salle Green Archers begin their hunt for a second straight title as the 80th Araw ng Davao Invitational basketball tournament gets off the wraps today at the Davao City Recreation Center.

The Green Archers, parading the explosive Ben Mbala at the forefront of their offense, will take on the Pacman Warriors of Gen. Santos City at 3:00 pm shortly after the Opening Ceremony at 2:00 pm.

Mbala, who skipped national team duty for Cameroon, will be the Archers chief weapon on its artillery after losing Jeron Teng and Thomas Torres to graduation. Rookies Aljun Melecio and Prince and Ricci Rivero and Abu Tratter are expected to draw quality minutes for La Salle who will be steered by head drillmaster Aldin Ayo.

The second game will feature Natitonal University Bulldogs against Montana Pawnshop at 5:00 pm while the nightcap will pit Malacanang Kamao against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons.

The six teams are bracketed in two groups with the top qualifiers after the eliminations squaring off for the title.

In Bracket A, the Green Archers will have Pacman and Montana as groupmates while Bracket B will have UP, NU and Malacanang.

The Kamao will be banking on 6-9 import Jimmy Brown and 6-8 veteran Mark Andaya.

Admission is free to the public in all game days.
