WBA No. 3 contender Filipino-Australian Czar Amonsot bowed to Carlos Manuel Portillo of Asuncion, Paraguay who scored an upset third round stoppage at the Melbourne Pavillion, Flemington, Victoria, Australia on Friday.
Amonsot was dropped in round three and the referee declared Portillo the winner by TKO at 2:41 of round. Amonsot was heavily favored to win because of his vast experience and hometown advantage.
But Portillo showed his hard hitting ability to wrest the interim WBA Oceania super lightweight title.
Portillo improved his record to 19 wins with no losses with 15 wins by knockout with high KO rate of 79% while Amonsot dropped to 34 wins, 22 by KO, 4 losses, 3 draws and 1 no contest.
This is the first time that Amonsot lost since living in Australia where he had a 16-fight unbeaten streak, winning several regional titles and becoming the sparring partner of Jeff Horn.
