IBP Davao del Norte’s defensive strategy on the sweet-shooting trusted aide of President Rodrigo Duterte backfired as it created open looks at the basket for yet another shooter–Glenn Escandor.
Escandor, who is the President’s adviser on sports, struck hard from the distance everytime the IBP defense collapsed on the high-scoring Go and with that double-barreled offense, Team Duterte was off to a 108-61 demolition of the DavNor Lawyers for its fifth straight win in the Go for Hoops basketball tournament at the Genesis 88 Gym on Saturday.
Go and Escandor conspired for 11 baskets from beyond the arc in a torrid shooting that practically broke the backs of the IBP DavNor side. Go, the special assistant to President Rodrigo Duterte, scored 35 points while Escandor shot his second 20-point game of the tournament as Team Duterte remained on top of the team standings.
Escandor found his range early and was in the zone the rest of the way hitting six triples to provide the needed spark for Team Duterte. Go and Escandor, known as the “Boss Brothers”, traded long bombs from opposite corners of the floor as Team Duterte to frustrate the defense of the DavNor Lawyers.
“Glenn played a really good game today so I am just glad that he was there to swing to when the defense goes down on me,” said Go after the win.
“Bwenas lang siguro ako sa game na to. I’m happy we got the win,” said Escandor.
IBP DavNor was led by Millares with 20 while Cagape had 17.
It was the second straight win via a wide margin for Team Duterte which massacred PSG in their last outing. The tournament is sanctioned by the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP 11).
