The Davao City Under 13 girls futsal squad lost out in the gold medal battle by the skin of their teeth via an unfortunate goal difference against Mandaue City in the 2018 Batang Pinoy National Games.
The Davao booters actually ended up in a 3-3 draw with Mandaue City in the finals played at the St. Louis University Gym in Baguio City. Tournament officials had to go through the goal difference to determine the gold medalist where Mandaue had a superior GD over Davao to take the championship.
Still, it was a worthy finish for the Dabawenyas who had to brave the storm against the decision of the entire delegation from the city to withdraw from the competitions due to the onset of typhoon Ompong.
“The girls fought so hard, I have no regrets coming here,” said coach Ching delos Reyes.
Jasmine Agustin scored on a penalty kick while Juliana del Mundo and Janeica Fernandez added one goal apiece for Davao’s three markers on the scoreline.
Davao City advanced to the finals after scoring its fourth straight win over Labrador 4-0. Agustin scored a brace for Davao in that match while Samantha Salise and Fernandez added a goal each.
The Davao squad is composed of Juliana Del Mundo-GK, Blaine Barredo-GK, Jasmine Agustin – Team Captain, Samantha Salise, Janeica Fernandez, Isabella Taojo, Dave Shanna Gigawin, Lacy Uy, Akia Cayabyab, and Alexandra Javellana.
Assisting Delos Reyes at the bench is Analou Ingles.
Backing up the squad are the City Government of Davao, Phoenix, Petron, San Miguel, Hexamindz, PBA Partylist, USI Industrial Supply, Glorias Resurrecion, KHANJ T-Shirt Maker, Hinex Janitorial and Carlos Ostan. (NJB)
