Fresh from their title conquest in the 2019 Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) boys elementary basketball, the Davao City little hoopsters vow to improve their artillery in time for the upcoming Palarong Pambansa 2019 right on their very own turf in May.
Scoring a 95-50 win over Compostela Valley in the finals and finishing the tournament with a spotless record, the team made up of choice pick-ups from Ateneo de Davao University (Addu), Assumption College of Davao (ACD) and Stella Maris Academy of Davao (SMAD), and reinforcements from F. Bustamante Elementry School (FBES) and Vicente Hizon, Sr. Elementary School (VHSES) was simply phenomenal.
But the biggest challenge this Davao City’s powerhouse team is yet to come.
Formidable entries from the country’s 16 regions with the likes of perennial champions National Capital Region (NCR), Western Visayas, Central Visayas and Central Luzon are out to crowd the chase for the coveted gold medal.
“March na kami mag start ng training for Palarong Pambansa at focus muna kami sa local leagues like Gaisano Cup and United Basketball League among others,” Davao City head coach Harry Hipolito said on their preparation for the National conclave.
Although the field is tough, only one thing is certain, Davao City will not back down without giving a good fight.
“I think this year’s roster is definitely strong enough to compete in the Palaro level. By design talaga to na kinuha ko na ang the best of the best sa Davao City sa age group nila kasi alam ko tayo ang host,” Hipolito said.
Davao Region, to be known as Eagles, will parade the city’s best basketeers in the elementary ranks composed of Samuel Nathan Torres, Jose Julio Garcia IV, Eio Julianne Rosco, Felix Justin O. Domingo, Nathaniel Jose Biliran, Adriane Macavinta, Marco James Sabio, Miguel Antonio P. Bacalso, Karl Dominic Te and Jian Torres, Neil Layogue and Klent Japheth Plarisan.
