DavOcc inaugurates mini Capitol

The Provincial Government of Davao Occidental recently inaugurated its new provincial capitol building in Malita town Tuesday.

Led by Governor Claude Bautista and Vice Governor Franklin Bautista, the employees and officials held their first ever flag raising activity in the newly constructed P22 million building.

The province of Davao Occidental was created thru Republic Act 10360 and adopted by its people on October 28, 2013.

Since its creation, the provincial government has been holding office in the municipal town hall of Malita, hometown of the Bautistas.

Gov. Bautista said that with their new but temporary provincial capitol, they hope to deliver better services to their constituents.

The relatively small capitol building houses all provincial agencies with the exemption of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

Governor Bautista said they however plan to transfer to the Provincial Capitol Complex in Barangay Lais few years from now.

The 30-hectare provincial complex is donated by Danding Cojuancgo and the San Miguel Corporation who has reportedly invested a lot in the young province.

The Bautistas are known supporters of the Cojuangcos who own substantial shares in SMC.

Vice Governor Franklin Bautista said that among the huge investments in their province are the coal-fired power plant and the banana plantation.
