MisOr capitol employee arrested for drugs

Police arrested an employee of the provincial government of Misamis Oriental for alleged illegal drug use inside an inn here on Tuesday.

Vergil Lago, a weather forecaster at the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, was caught in possession of “shabu” weighing 0.36 grams when police swooped down on his rented room at Wilshire Inn, said Senior Insp. Gilbert Rollen, head of the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU).

Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano, who said Lago holds the position of Local DRRM Officer II, said the employee’s arrest shocked other capitol workers and the suspect’s colleagues at the local disaster management community.

Lago will be allowed to return to work once he posts bail, Emano said, pointing out that a suspect is considered “innocent until proven guilty.”

According to Rollen, Lago was caught in the act of using illegal drugs, and police confiscated from him two sachets of suspected “shabu”, including aluminum foil and other drug paraphernalia.. (PNA/Mark D. Francisco)
