KORONADAL CITY — The city government collected around P57 million in business taxes during the week-long annual registration and renewal of business permits earlier this month.
Gilbert Gayosa, head of the city’s business permits and licensing office, said Thursday the figure surpassed their revenue target by around P6 million, which was based on their collections in the same activity last year.
He said the number of registered and renewed business permits in the city this year increased to more than 3,600 from 3,400 last year.

Citing their records, a significant number of applications were for lending firms and ventures in the service industry.
For this year, he said a number of major businesses are set to open in the city, among them a hotel, mall and several 7-Eleven convenience stores.
Three 7-Eleven stores have already opened in the city since December and another outlet is undergoing construction.
The city government opened its business one-stop shop at the city hall lobby from Jan. 3 to 10 for the registration and renewal of business permits.
The local government adopted a more simplified Business Permits and Licensing System (BPLS) this year as part of a streamlining program initiated by the national government.
The departments of Trade and Industry, Interior and Local Government and the Information and Communication Technology had issued a joint memorandum circular directing local governments to rationalize their BPLS.
Gayosa said the local government has continued accepting late renewals and registrations for business permits but cited that they are already covered by penalties and surcharges.
He said they will impose a surcharge of 25 percent for all late applications this month and an additional 2 percent for each succeeding month. (MindaNews)
