Cops hunt suspects in murder of 2 in North Cotabato

PIKIT, North Cotabato — Police here have launched a manhunt against two men who shot dead two residents and wounded another on Sunday.

Supt. Bernard Tayong, North Cotabato police spokesman, said the Army’s 7th Infantry Battalion and 602nd Infantry Brigade, have joined the police in hunting down the suspects.

Tayong identified the fatalities as pedicab driver Danilo Initan, 60, and his 35-year-old passenger, Annie Fernandez Rama.

Another passenger, Veronica Bero, 22, was wounded in the attack.

Tayong said the victims were on their way to Barangay Ladtingan from the town proper here when the armed men blocked their path and shot them using .45 caliber pistol.

Tayong said the identities of the suspects had been established and being verified by law enforcers while the motive of the attack remained unknown.

Guns-for-hire and robbers have been operating in Pikit and executed at least 20 to 30 persons the past three months.

Among the victims were two foreigners: a retired US serviceman-turned-businessman and a Pakistani who was into the lending business.

They were shot dead in separate incidents after the gunmen robbed them of their valuables and cash. Tayong said the police will not stop unless the perpetrators are put behind bars. (PNA)
