Death benefits guidelines to Davao elderly out soon

The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Davao City has started conducting committee meetings for the crafting of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the death benefits for the senior citizens.

Councilor Victorio Advincula Jr., chair of the committee on social programs, said the death benefits would be apart from the hospitalization assistance that the Lingap para sa Mahirap system of the city offers.

“What we are doing now is we are creating a system that will be used (as a guideline) for the death benefits of senior citizens,” Advincula said.

He said the committee wanted that only non-pensioner senior citizens can avail of the assistance.

The deceased must also not have a burial or service plan.

“We want to make sure that only those who really need the help of the city will be accommodated, those who have the capacity to pay for their funeral or burial services, I ask them that we better give it to those who really need it,” Advincula said.

The Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) will conduct the screening of potential beneficiaries before endorsing them to the office of Mayor Inday Sara Duterte.

The relatives of qualifying senior citizens could then proceed to the City Treasurer’s Office to collect their check, which amounts to P5 , 000. CIO
