Marking the 100th day since alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles surrendered to President Benigno Aquino III, some 300 young skaters, cyclists, and bladers in Davao City converged Sunday to protest against the government officials involved in the P10 billion scam.
Angel Abella, Scrap Pork Network convenor in Davao City said in an exclusive interview with Edge Davao that this is part of their move which aims to make Dabawenyos more informed of the scam and how greatly it affects individual lives.
The attendees, named as the “critical mass” took the route from Magallanes Rotonda to SM Lanang Premier, wherein in every point, they discussed pressing issues on PDAF.
Abella said that they still wanted PDAF and the bureaucratic system to be scrapped. According to her, as taxpayers, it is a must to be a vigilant to avoid the use of tax collected from every Filipino hand .
“We want transparency. Personalan na ‘to. If we are already enjoying the services we have right now, how much more if this scam did not happened. We might have the bike lanes for these young people,” Dawn Albert Pates, another volunteer of Scrap Pork Network.
“We are watching you,” Pates said, adding that it is not only the youth sector who is protesting against the slow probe, but also the entities from private institutions.
She said it is “frustating” how the government took the pork barrel scam without considering how it greatly affect the lives of the people who were supposed to be benefitted by the PDAF.
“Ang tagal-tagal ng justice system,” Abella said, noting that the PDAF issue needs to be resurfaced as senators Juan Ponce Enrile-Miriam Defensor rift try to bury it in the tables of the legislators.
“If given the chance, even people in the streets want to comment on this. Everybody already know this [PDAF issue], “Pates said.
