Freed militiamen to undergo medical check-up, debriefing

The 10th Infantry (Agila) Division of the Philippine Army said the two militiamen released by the communists New People’s Army last Friday in Davao Oriental will undergo medical evaluation and debriefing processes.

In a press statement on Monday, 10th ID chief information officer Capt. Rhyan Batchar said the 10th ID also welcomed the safe return of militiamen Rene Doller and Carl Mark Nucos.

“We shall then publish the results of these evaluations as soon as it is completed. As of now, they are given time to recover from the physical, mental and emotional trauma they experienced while at the hands of the NPA rebels,” Batchar said.

The 10th ID will also provide the families of Doller and Nocus with the necessary assistance while they are recovering from this traumatic experience.

“We further demand from the NPA the release of their other kidnap victims and desist from using the victims’ hapless situation in advancing their political propaganda,” Batchar added.

Doller and Nucos were forcibly taken by NPAs belonging to Pulang Bagani Command 6 last February 14 in Sitio Upper Waywayan, Barangay Don Mariano, Lupon, Davao Oriental.

Batchar said the militiamen were riding separately in two motorcycles, unarmed and in civilian clothes when flagged down and abducted by the NPAs.

The abduction took place after an armed encounter between the rebels and elements of 28th Infantry Battalion in Purok 2, Barangay New Visayas, Lupon, he added.

Batchar said both Doller and Nucos are now under the custody at the headquarters of 701st Infantry Brigade in Sitio Magay, Barangay Don Martin Marundan, in Mati City.
