The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has seized Thursday, June 1, tons of hazardous materials at a checkpoint in Barangay Suarez this city.
BFP-Northern Mindanao chief Senior Superintendent Domingo Tambalo said the intercepted hazardous materials in transit include chemicals such as Sodium Chloride and Sodium Hypochlorite, all considered hazardous substances as these are used to manufacture explosive weapons or bombs.
Sodium chloride is an ionic compound also known as salt or halite, while Sodium Hypochlorite is a chemical compound which, when dissolved in water, becomes liquid bleach.
For purposes of tightening security in the area amidst Marawi crisis, the BFP warns the public and the trucking associations that are coming in and out of Marawi City of not bringing chemicals at or above the threshold quantity.
BFP also encourages a stronger coordination between businesses and local law enforcement agencies to reinforce the foundation of effective community safety and security. (RLRBalistoy/PIA10, Bukidnon)
