The Datu Bago Awardees Association tried to nominate then Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte as an awardee for 2016 but he declined.
That left only one nominee whose name the association is not inclined to give at this stage.
Several others named also declined the nomination.
“Lack of information supported with valid documents explains why few seem to be nominated,” said Marina B Ruvivar of the Datu Bago Awardee Association Association told the Kapehan sa Dabaw on Monday.
She said some of those previously nominated can be re-nominated given more documents and more community service.
“There is a search committee they will screen the nominee and they will recommend this to the board of trustees of the Datu Bago, if the board of trustee will agree on the recommendation then it will be forwarded to the city mayor. The mayor will have the final say about the recommendation,” added Ma. Julieta Torres, executive director of the Datu Bago Association.
The search is open to all people of any nationality, living or deceased, born in Davao city or who have been residents in the city for at least 10 years. For a living nominee he or she must accept the nomination. The previous nominees can still join provided additional substantial information and documentation merit a reconsideration of the individual entry. The person who was already awarded with this is no longer qualified.
This award is given to an individual who has contributed to the development of the city of Davao with exemplary competence and dedication. This person best serves as a model of excellence and an aspiration to the residents of Davao city. The association is still accepting nominations for the Search or the Datu Bago Award 2018 up until December 15, 2017.
This annual event is organized by the Datu Bago Awardee Organization in partnership with the city government through the Office of The Mayor. The Datu Bago Award is bestowed within the week of the Araw ng Davao Celebration.
An honorable person living in Davao city or an organization in Davao City for the past ten years can be nominated for an award. The nominee will be evaluated based on these criteria; Outstanding contribution(s) to the growth and development of the city of Davao, exemplary service/s rendered to the community in any field of endeavor, work-related accomplishment/s must merit national and or international recognition placing the city of Davao on the map and the nominee must be law- abiding citizen, has a good moral character and integrity and has a good reputation on the community.
