Al-ag says he is ready to assume No. 2 post

The new Vice Mayor of Davao City has expressed readiness to take up the responsibility left by resigned Vice Mayor Paolo Z. Duterte.

City council floor leader Bernard Al-ag said he is accepting the challenge to succeed Paolo after President Rodrigo R. Duterte approved the resignation of his son last Friday.

“I am ready to take on the duties and responsibilities as the new Vice Mayor of Davao City,” Al-ag said in an online interview. Al-ag said he will continue the programs instituted by Vice Mayor Paolo in the City council.

“I will also reaffirm our support to the leadership of Mayor Sara Z. Duterte by supporting her 10-point agenda of the city through legislative actions,” he said.

He said the leaders in the city council are helping each other to make a right decision to whatever proposed ordinance the body will approve.

“Right now we are trying to regroup,” he said. Al-ag also assured the public that the city council is still ‘intact’ despite Paolo’s resignation.

He said although he is not new with the function of the position because he was always designated as acting-vice mayor while the presidential son was on leave on several occassions.

“I usually took over the administrative roles of a vice mayor before,” he said. However, Al-ag said he is still sad with the former vice mayor’s resignation.

During the time the former vice mayor expressed his resignation last December 25, he said they were shocked with his decision. “Although we did not agree with his decision on his resignation, but we still respect it,” he said.

Meanwhile, Al-ag bared the first council session for this year will discuss some of the items that were deferred last year.

One of the agenda that will be discussed is the proposed ordinance giving tax incentives to businessmen who will build a parking building. Al-ag said this proposal will give a five-year exemption from the local taxes to the people who will venture to this kind business.

This because the city already have many vehicles but there were no enough parking spaces. He said the ordinance aims to lessen the traffic congestion that caused by vehicles illegally parked on the roadside.
