The Davao City Police Office will implement tight security measures and security plans for the upcoming celebration of the Chinese New Year on Feb. 15 in Rizal Park, Davao City.
Sr. Insp. Maria Teresita Gaspan, DCPO spokesperson, said during the iSpeak media forum on Thursday at City Hall that the security plan includes the target hardening measures to strengthen the security in Chinese New Year.
“We will still adopt the same security measures last year with a few changes, putting more focus on the enforcement in accordance with the Martial Law guidelines, “she said.
She said that they will put a police desk assistance to ensure and monitor the security of the people during exhibitions such as dance competition, dragon dance and others.
Gaspan reminded the public that bringing of firearms, bladed and backpacks are strictly prohibited in areas were major activities will be held. The DCPO already asked for augmentation from the Regional Public Safety Battalion to secure the festivity.
Gaspan also pointed out that they haven’t received any threats so far but that doesn’t mean they should be complacent, especially considering that Davao City has always been a prime target of terrorists
“Dabawenyoshould always be alert and promptly reported to the police if there is a serious crime and suspicious activity during the celebration,” she said.
Gaspan said DCPO would also be deploying more police personnel and security forces on February 15.
