Dabawenyo Ako!, a series of interactive learning lectures with tours on Davao and being a Dabawenyo was launched Thursday morning at the Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. Central Elementary School covered court.
Themed “Luyo sa ngalang Dabawenyo — kaniadto ug sa kasamtangan sa dakbayan sa Dabaw,” the activity aims to educate grade school children with basic information about Davao’s history, as well as Dabawenyo culture. It will also help cultivate their appreciation of the local heritage and arts at an early age.
Orly Escarilla, the official spokesperson of this year’s Araw ng Davao celebration, said around 300 to 400 elementary students will be the target audience of the Dabawenyo Ako! activities .
Dabawenyo Ako! includes activities such as storytelling for Grades 2 to 3 pupils inside their classroom by licensed tour guides.
“The stories, which are told through powerpoint presentations, focus on the history of Davao hero Datu Bago,” Escarilla said.
He also added that there will be a walking tour of the photo exhibition of Davao’s “Then and Now.” which will target Grades 4 to 6 pupils.
The activity will be conducted in 11 elementary schools all over the city, including Marilog Central ES (March 2), Matina Pangi Central ES (March 5), Baguio Central ES (March 6), Tugbok Central ES-SPED Center (March 7), Don Juan dela Cruz ES (March 8 ) , New Matina ES (March 9), A. Pichon ES (March 12), Sto. Niño ES (March 13), Teofilo V. Fernandez ES (March 14) and Jose L. Porras ES (March 15). CIO
