The city government of Davao is planning to put up a memorial to the victims of the Old Airport bomb attack, which happened about 15 years ago.
Mayor Inday Sara Duterte said that she was studying the proposal to erect a monument to honor the victims of the bombing.
“There is already a proposal for the construction of the monument and Barangay Sasa (officials) said they have a budget for it. I am having it checked. I told them if it can be included this year, we will include it but if not, maybe next year,” Mayor Inday said.
On Monday, the families of the 17 victims gathered at the blast site to commemorate the 15th year of the bombing. A mass was also held to remember the victims.
Maria Luisa Bermudo, the head of the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO), said that the city stayed true to its commitment to help the families of the victims through the scholarship program of the city.
“The assistance to families of the victims are continuing. This was the city’s commitment, which was made by then mayor and now President Duterte,” Bermudo said.
There are still more than 100 dependents of the blast victims who were studying under the city’s scholarship program.
Mayor Inday said this gesture on the part of the city showed Dabawenyos will not bow down to terrorism and will face it as one. CIO
