The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 11 revealed an alarming increase in the number of barangay officials who are involved in illegal drugs.
PDEA 11 regional director Antonio Rivera said the number has now reached to 11 barangay officials who are now involved in the drug trade compared to the previous year’s six.
“Naa tay na monitor nga nag-surrender na nga duha ka barangay officials apan mibalik na usab (We monitored two baragay officials who prviously surrendered but they return to their illegal activity),” he said.
Among the 11, he said three of these are barangay captains while the eight are barangay councilors.
He also said that one of the 11 barangay officials is coming from Davao City but whose name he said will remain under wraps in the meantime.
Aside from Davao City, Davao del Nortem Davao Oriental and Davao Occidental have three each of them while one in Davao del Sur.
Rivera urged these erring barangay officials not to run in the upcoming election to save themselves and family from shame.
“Kini pud sa mga barangay kapitan, kung kabalo mo nga inyon mga kagawad apil sa ingon ana, isulti sa amoa, tapos ingna nga dili na sila dapat mo dagan kay apil sila sa illegal activity (I also asked the barangay captains to report to us if you know that your councilors are involved in illegal activities and tell them not to run),” she said.
He told these officials that they cannot fool the voters anymore since they are well informed about the mandate of President Rodrigo R. Duterte against illegal drugs.
Rivera also asked the the voters not to choose the baranagay officials who are involved in illegal drugs to save their community.
Earlier, a John T. Nardo, 36, Barangay Councilor of Barangay New Visayas in Panabo City was nabbed by PDEA 11 ang Panabo City Police Station through a search warrant.
PDEA 11 report bared that Nardo is part in the top 10 Regional and Provincial target list and also included in the list of President Duterte.
