Sara: auxiliaries to receive salaries

The allowances for the Davao City Police Office auxiliaries will be turned to a salary from allowance as Mayor Sara Z. Duterte is pushing to pay them the minimum wage next year.

Duterte bared this yesterday during the Thanksgiving boodle fight with the police auxiliaries, this September he will include on the next year’s annual budget for their salary increase.

“Kinahanglan at least naay one year as volunteer para by January 2019 ma-activate inyong minimum wage plus ang inyong PhilHealth (You should have at least one year as volunteer so that by January 2019 you will be receiving the minimum wage and your PhilHealth),” she said.

She said the Auxiliaries are currently being paid P6,000 monthly allowance and the mayor wanted to increase because of their contribution of maintaining the peace and order in the city.

“Mao na ang akong pasalamat sa inyohang hago para sa atong city (That is my way of thanking you for your hardwork for our city),” she said.

Duterte, however, clarified that their position will remain as volunteer.

In an interview, she said the computation of their salaray is eight-hour a day basis since it is the standard of the Labor Code of the Philippines.

The Davao Region has a P340 minimum wage a day based on the order released by the Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board 11 (RTWPB 11) issued last December 2016.

The mayor said if the minimum wage will be implemented each of the 910 Auxiliaries will have a take home pay of P8,000 a month.

For his part, DCPO director Sr. Supt. Alexander Tagum said he is happy with the support of the Davao City Government.

“The support given to our Police Auxiliares will have an impact to their economic condition especially their families,” he said.

Tagum said with the Police Auxiliaries helped the decrease of crime index in the city.
