The Department of the Interior and Local Government in the region has come out in full force in its massive information drive to inspire voters to choose for the best barangay officials.
“Let us vote for Matalino, Mahusay and Maasahan,” said Wilhelm Suyko, assistant regional director, during the weekly Kapehan sa Dabaw, saying that this should serve as a citizen’s guide in the forthcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections this May 14, 2018.
“Those three M qualities are needed to push for a clean, honest and excellently governed barangays,” Suyko said.
Suyko identifies the list qualities of a good barangay official exhibit the following traits of resistant to corruption, has a developmental platform, loyal to the service and open to the public, adheres to government and community guidelines and tested in helping to maintain peace and order in the barangay.
“The barangays, as the forefront of government service should be committed to the Duterte admistration anti-corruption, anti-drugs and anti-criminality campaign. The National Government needs barangay officials that are committed to reform in the barangay level,” Alex Roldan, DILG regional director said on a statement.
Meanwhile, Suyko said that after the Barangay and SK election on Saturday they will be implementing the “Barangay Newly Elected Officials towards Grassroots Renewal and Empowerment for Accountable and Transparent Barangay (BNEO-GREAT)” in coordination with DILG 11 and Local Government Academy.
“This is a capacity development program with set of activities and learning interventions to support the changing needs of the barangays,” Suyko said.
