New Davao City councilor takes oath

Newly-appointed city councilor Carmelo Clarion formally assumed office by taking his oath before Mayor Inday Sara Duterte Monday.

Clarion, the barangay captain of Mulig in Toril district, was endorsed by the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod as the replacement of 3rd District councilor Bernard Al-ag, who was named vice mayor after Paolo Duterte resigned.

Clarion said he would prioritize the needs of the barangays such as potable water supply.

“I’d like to take some time and go around the 82 barangays of the 3rd district to know what they need, but for now, I can see that there is a need for potable water,” he said.

Some areas in Toril have low water supply, particular those in the elevated areas.

Mayor Inday said Clarion’s appointment had been discussed by Hugpong members and they decided to choose a village official to replace Al-ag.

“There was a discussion among the members of the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod as to the replacement of  (councilor) Al-ag after he assumed the Vice Mayorship, and then it came out that it was better if we choose a barangay captain to address the grassroots level,” Mayor Inday said.

She said she is confident Clarion will help in the legislation of laws that could bring improvement, not only in the 3rd district but the entire city as well, including in matters of security and public service.

“Since the party chose me and the mayor showed her confidence in me, I am willing to accept all the challenges and to take this responsibility,” Clarion added. CIO
