Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (PCCI) Director for Tourism Sammie Lim said that Davao’s hotel services need to introduce more improvements to cope with this city’s growing reputation as an “international gateway.”
Lim said he observed during his stay in Davao that hotel establishments need top level service to match the city’s increasing tourist arrivals yearly. .
The Davao City Tourism and Operations Office (CTOO) reported a total of 1,571,506 tourist from January-August this year, as compared to the 2017 record of 1,269,669.
“They really have to level up their capabilities, whether in their restaurants or in their facilities. Their services should also level up,” Lim said.
He also said that travel agencies should step up in their services, due to the increase tourism arrivals and departures in the country.
Lim mentioned that with the existence of online travel agencies, they will be taken over if they do not improve their services.
“Answering their queries in person is still the best way to cater your clients, as compared to phone and online inquiries, for it will take time before it will be catered,” Lim said.
He then said that PCCI is looking forward to more tourist arrival in the coming years, especially with their proposal of putting up an international gateway airport in Davao City, to cater more tourist.
Once the gateway airport will be fully-constructed, the chamber director said that more than 20 million international tourists will be catered yearly.
