SPECKS OF LIFE: Can’t make omelet without breaking eggs

This French proverb explains that in achieving success, there will be casualties along the way.

This is exactly the only way to describe PRRD’s governance and leadership.

The protestations and rantings of the few against the government’s intensified campaign versus illegal drugs indicate their idiotic ignorance. They form part of the resistant sectors who would fight against the onslaught of change because they want to maintain the status quo that was reflective of the indolent, laid-back PNoy administration.

As you now see, PRRD is our head chef who is cooking a delicious-tasting, mouth-watering omelet. Eggs being the major ingredient, he cannot serve this menu on the table without breaking the eggs, right?

The case of the Parajinogs in Ozamis City is a description of how omelet should be cooked.

Majority of the people support the President as indicated by his very high trust and approval ratings.

Backed by the Filipino nation, the extension of martial rule in Mindanao got the nod of both houses of Congress. The Duterte version of martial law is welcomed by Mindanaoans compared to the harsh 1972 edition proclaimed by Ferdinand Marcos.

The political opposition is exploiting the recent death of a 17-year-old student in the custody of the PNP to rouse and agitate the Filipinos to rise and speak up. The same political opposition however is silent over the violent murder of a pregnant woman (including the unborn child in her womb) who was killed by a 16-year old drug pusher.

Why the double standard?

The drug lords and their cohorts in crime have, admittedly, joined hands with anti-Duterte forces to resist, if not oust, PRRD. They have no choice but to fight just like their counterparts in Mexico and Colombia. They know PRRD means business and either they move away completely from the Philippines or die battling government agents and the police.

I think they have chosen the latter.

Despite the discovery and police raids of shabu labs in many parts of the country, the smuggling of this illegal product goes unabated. China has been the primary source as reflected by the scandalous BOC smuggling that went past the very noses of the Customs top leadership.

This situation and scenario is exasperating, is it not?

The main stream media here are more inclined to project police brutality but have remained aloof in presenting the heroism of cops who were felled by bullets of drug syndicate members. This slanted presentation of the news tells us that there is indeed a conspiracy to topple PRRD from his perch.

In the US, the crying, the sobbing and emotional outbursts of witnesses are not allowed to be shown. But this is even flaunted by the local TV stations in such length to get the audiences’ sympathy. If you have had the opportunity to regularly stream on-line the news programs presented by ABC, CBS, NBC and other major US media organizations, they report news with more objectivity.

(Incidentally, I learned this when I took up and finished my broadcast journalism course at the UCLA extension in Los Angeles in the late eighties.)

Of course, PNP chief Ronald dela Rosa will not condone abusive cops who take the law in their own hands. He should ensure that the Internal

Affairs Service are doing their job of keeping an eye on PNP personnel who commit murder in the name of Lady Justice.

So, for now, let us wait and watch PRRD cook his omelet.

Just how many eggs he will need to break to complete his recipe, no one can tell. We don’t know yet if it’s a Spanish, Filipino, American or Middle East omelet.
