The Department of Agriculture (DA) asked rice millers on Friday to cooperate with the government in addressing the problems of the rice industry by providing reliable data on their inventory to “ensure the stability of rice supply” in the country.
“Let’s help each other to address the problems of the rice industry. We enjoin you to streamline your data, as it will help to efficiently manage the rice industry,” Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Calcala said.
Alcala called on the millers to help DA, particularly in arriving at a more credible estimate of the country’s total rice inventory, as this would allow the government to come up with a better assessment of the national rice supply situation.
“Bear in mind that if you would report less, we would be forced to import, and such would adversely affect you. Hence, we have to get accurate figures on the current rice inventory,” the DA chief said. [PNA]
