City council and religious leaders lead Mindanao Week of Peace

Archbishop Ermitus Fernando Capalla announced the celebration of the Mindanao Week of Peace 2016 to be celebrated throughout the region beginning November 24 to December 1.

“Our theme for this year’s celebration is Respect and Protect Life: a Celebration of the Filipino Spirit,” he remarked.

According to Capalla, who is the convenor of the Bishops-Ulamma Conference, the Davao City MWP executive committee would spearhead the festivities of the said event.

The committee is composed of himself, Davao City Councilor Pilar Braga thru Maui Justiani, and Col. Arnelio Arboleda of the armed forces of the Philippines.

“Our main objective is to create a space to foster a good relationship of peace,” said Nor Asiah Adilao of the Davao chapter of the Silsilah Dialogue Movement. She is one of several people working close with the committee.

She added that the MWP also sought to impart to the public a deeper understanding of the theme.

Maui Justiani, representative of Councilor Pilar Braga also announced that the preliminary celebrations of the MWP would start on November 21-23 with the announcement of the MWP during the flag raising in city hall.

The MWP opening program would begin with a motorcade in Roxas Avenue at November 24, 3pm followed by a harmony meal in Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU).

Other things to look forward to, according to Adilao, is the Peace Village in the AdDU – Jacinto Campus from November 28-December 1.

“We will also have a Peace Walk on December 1 headed by the Philippine National Police,” Adilao said.

She added that she is thankful for the multi-sectoral support for the MWP.
