The newest micro business innovation that is set to operate in schools in Davao City is the Saba Deli Food Cart.
Davao region, known as a big producer of cavendish and cardava bananas, is maximizing such products to help micro entrepreneurs.
The innovation started with the business model of community based kitchen or microkitchens conceptualized by SDCAsia (Strategic Development Cooperation-Asia).
Here, wives of banana farmers were trained to produce low cost and nutritious cardava-based recipes like banana balls, lumpia, chucula-milk shake and croquetas which are sold to school canteens and even in the neighborhood.
“While their husbands work in the farm, we encourage the wives to make use of the produce by learning various recipes based on bananas,” said Chin Nobleza of SDCAsia.
This led them to conceptualize the model of a Saba Deli Food Cart, a fresh business innovation that willpromote the value of cardava banana.
SDCAsia installed the first food cart and having seen the potentials of the business model, Rotary Club Foundation later committed the installation of three other Saba Deli Food Carts set to operate in leading public schools of the city.
The mobile food cart design and concept was developed together with the Rotary Club Foundation and Sagrex Food Corporation to promote income opportunities for women households.
The operation of the four Saba Deli Food Carts was launched lastAugust 25 partnering with the 4K Cooperative Women Group as the base microkitchen.
Sagrex Food Corporation, a local exporter of processed cardava bananas will provide the raw materials for the members of the cooperative.
