Perhaps what is most frustrating about the rising number of people with diabetes, heart disease and obesity is the fact that in many cases exercise and diet can prevent these conditions.
It is a known fact that prevention is more cost-effective than treatment, which is why partnerships between fitness facilities and hospitals are growing.
While the reasons for developing these partnerships are obvious, making them happen is not as simple as it sounds. One reason is because not all gym instructors are equipped and trained to handle people with special conditions. Secondly, not all facilities have the equipment appropriate for these special needs. The fitness and medical communities can partner up in numerous ways.
At Holiday Gym and Spa, the premier health and wellness center in the city, gym instructors are also physical therapists. This set-up gives the medical practitioners confidence to endorse their patients’ to Holiday for their exercise programs knowing that the gym instructors at Holiday can understand the medical condition of their patients and will be able to design appropriate exercise programs for them.
The Holiday Physical Therapy Center, adjacent to the main fitness center, also complements the vision of the company – that is to be able to provide treatment to people with injuries and help them recover and be able to gradually go back to their normal day-to-day activities.
Again, because the population may be at risk, physicians—and their patients—do look for fitness professionals who have the experience, education and appropriate certifications to work with particular populations. The initial health assessment for new members needs to be more stringent, thus Holiday hires gym instructors who are graduates of physical therapy and require them to complete an intensive in-house training program.
On October 10, Holiday gym instructors and physical therapists will be at the 2nd Healthy Living Expo at The Event Centre of SM City of Davao to cater to your health & wellness needs. The HGS team will be conducting free BMI (body mass index) and WHR (waist Hip Ratio) screening, postural analysis and scoliosis screening. A free pain management clinic will be set-up. They will also be there to answer your queries regarding your exercise regimen.
The expo will also feature free lectures and exercise demos. Schedule is as follows:
