The 2010 Musikahan Festival, Davao Region’s opening salvo in 2010, is inviting would-be participants and performers from asll over the country to join in celebration of the longest running music festival hereabouts.
The executive committee headed by Ms. Alma L. Uy is winding up preparations for the February 19-28, 2010 Musikahan Festival to be held at the New City Hall site, Jesus V. Ayala Avenue in Apokon Road of Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
“Musikahan” began as Mindanao’s grandest music festival seven years ago. Today, it has expanded its invitation throughout the Philippines for a massive awareness that love of music runs through the veins of every Filipino. Exploiting various expressions and forms, the festival opens its music components from traditional folk to contemporary, and
from competition to production and performance showcases.
Millions worth in cash prizes await the winners and commendable, recognition will be given to the outstanding musical performers. The competition is open to children, youth and adult categories, either school or community based.
The events are:
– Rondal-Awit (rondalla playing & vocal solo competition);
– Avenida Musika (national brass band competition-Open category);
– Kasikas Sa Dalan (national drum & bugle competition — Elementary category);
– Himig Handog (national choral competition — children, youth, college & adult choirs &
open quintet competition);
– Raprapan (rap and instrument playing competition);
– Pasiklaban (battle of the bands competition) and the
– Byaheng Musikahan (national music video competition).
Special performances will also be included during the national music gathering as the world’s renowned Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra shall perform its outstanding pieces as part of their First Mindanao Tour, plus the music theater productions of Mindanaoan artists will be presented as special showcases for the delegates of the National
Schools Press Conference 2010 to be held in the city in time during the music festival.
