Expat – Let’s dream and work harder!

by Klaus Doring

Dreams are foams? Maybe. Maybe not. Confucius said long time ago: “The one who steals our dreams brings us to death!”
Series of images or thoughts in the mind of a person asleep, the idle fancy, the vision, the aspiration, the yearnings — are dreams that have interested,  puzzled and frightened people for thousands of years. All kinds of strange explanations have been written about dreams. Interpreters of dreams have published innumerable books. I bought some of them too. I caught myself reading them and analyzing my dreams, resulting in my becoming unsure and sometimes really undecided about the many different explanations regarding the same dream’s meaning.
Today, it is believed that the dreamer himself creates his dreams; and, because dreams are something a person creates, they may have a special meaning for the dreamer. Just why should one have a dream when one may depend on many things. Your health may have an affect on your dreams. If a person is hungry or feels cold, or is very tired, the dreams may include these feelings. Also, the events of the day before may have a lot to do with what people dream about.
Many people (including me) are day dreamers. That’s not bad. It helps one to work harder — no matter what one’s project or job is… .
I still dream of many things. Blue-eyed as I am, sometimes I dream of a better world without ignorance and arrogance in our daily surroundings at home and at the working place as well as in business. I dream of honest friends, who don’t turn their back if we need them. I dream of a world with people who don’t kill each other because of some stupid and incomprehensible reasons. I dream of a country named Philippines, where politicians are guided by national and not personal interests. I dream that the typical Filipino dream to leave the country and work aboad may change into another dream.

The UN climate summit in Copenhagen/Denmark has begun. Representatives from 192 countries are negotiating a treaty to fight climate change. But will their efforts be successful? Of course, anything is possible. But is it enough?
Fact is, when world leaders meet in Copenhagen to discuss climate change, one aspect they are unlikely to ouch upon is how it affects world heritage sites. But, just because it’s not on the agenda, doesn’t mean it’s not an issue.
Plans and pledges have already been made by the participating nations. The biggest problem: World’s nations set different climate protection goals. Unity and deeds are badly needed! Let’s not ony dream — let’s work harder togther and united — whatever the reason might be… .
