Globe, a leading telecommunications company in the Philippines, recently launched The Global Filipino Mind, a learning program for elementary and high school students, in partnership with MaryLindbert International Inc. and the Department of Education (DepEd). The Global Filipino Mind, A Comprehensive School Program calls for an enhancement of existing curriculum by teaching grades 5 and 6 students effective oral communication, logical thinking, social consciousness, and entrepreneurship. The curriculum also covers the life and works of some local and foreign scientists and their contributions to the advancement of science and technology, the importance of art and creativity in various art forms, and identifying one’s strengths and weaknesses and the ways to improve one’s potentials. The first and second year high school students will be taught the values of being a good communicator, logical thinker, lateral thinker, creative thinker and socially conscious, as well as the good Filipino values. These will all be embedded in existing subjects that include English, Math, Science, Current Events, Music and Arts, and the Psychology of Relationships. The Global Filipino Mind program will run from September 2009 to March 2010, benefiting 50 private and public schools nationwide.
