DCWD joins water campaign

The Davao City Water District (DCWD) is being tapped to participate in a groundbreaking 6-kilometer ‘Run for Water’ campaign in April.
The activity is part of a worldwide effort mounted by the Global Water Challenge (GWC), a coalition of various public- and private-sector personalities and organizations working to raise global awareness on water conservation.
“We are honored to be part of this noble effort,” says DCWD General Manager Rodora Gamboa. “A campaign of this magnitude will certainly go a long way in promoting the benefits of conserving our precious water resources.”
While details of the activity have yet to be finalized, the office of Councilor Leonardo Avila has begun coordinating with partner groups, including the DCWD, to help ensure the success of the run.
The 6-km. run will take place simultaneously in different parts of the globe on a designated day in April, “featuring concerts and water education activities aimed at igniting a tipping point to help solve the water crisis,” according to official communication from Avila’s office.
Excerpts from a GWC fact sheet, quoting a UNDP report, says that “unsafe water and poor sanitation are the world’s second biggest killers of children.”
It adds that “safe water and sanitation are the most effective interventions against infectious diseases.”
