PBGEA goes online

The Pilipino Banana Growers and Exporters Association, Inc. (PBGEA) opens a new avenue for information exchange about the Philippine banana industry through the launching of its website at www.pbgea.org.
“This is an important milestone for PBGEA as we strive to keep the Philippine banana industry growing in the midst of new challenges within the local environment and in the global market,” said Anthony Sasin, PBGEA spokesperson and director.
The PBGEA website is intended to serve as a one-stop-shop for news and feature stories about the Philippine banana industry through links with local and national media organizations; an online information source about bananas, the top fresh fruit export in the world; a venue for sharing information among industry stakeholders; and a means for linking with the PBGEA.
The site currently has several sections carrying content on the local and global banana industry, interesting information and trivia about bananas, background information on the PBGEA plus contact information, frequently asked questions, and recent news and features. There are also blogs, photos, and videos.
The sections for a forum, feedback and downloadable documents are under development to make the website more interactive. It is actually a work-in-progress website which will be continuously updated to keep the information current and fresh to make it very useful for whoever is interested in the banana industry.
“We want to make communication lines for the Philippine banana industry accessible,” said Sasin.
“Through this website, the PBGEA reaffirms its commitment to contribute to the economy of Mindanao and the Philippines as a whole, look after the welfare of all the workers involved in the industry, comply with laws and play an active role in protecting our environment, and pursue programs that will help in the development of our communities,” Stephen Antig, PBGEA president said.
The PBGEA has been in existence for 41 years now and over the last four decades, it has been working to perfect the craft of growing world-class bananas, making the Philippines the only southeast Asian country among the top five banana exporters in the word. Its membership comprise of all industry stakeholders, including farmers and export companies.
