DOLE assesses Labor Day jobs fair

In an entire year, approximately eight to nine jobs fairs are conducted, with the one that falls on Labor Day being highlighted. During the Club 888 Forum at The Marco Polo Davao last May 5, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) director Venerando C. Cebrano gave a report on the accomplishment of the 2010 Labor Day job’s fair to the media. The jobs fair was held last April 29 to 30 and May 3 at the Gaisano Mall Davao and SM City Davao, respectively.
According to the report, 97 employers and agencies participated and 13,845 (4,632-Local; 9,213-Overeseas) vacancies solicited. The total number of applicants registered was 4,581 (3,064-Local; 656-Overseas; 861-Local/Overseas), with 296 (203-Local; 93-Overseas) people hired on the spot; 2,514 were for final interview or evaluation, and 574 applicants were registered online. According to Cebrano, for as long as an offered job has a clear opening and deserves applicants, they will include it in the event. DOLE also has programs to assist and guide applicants in order to make them more articulate, have a good mindset, and become more presentable in joining jobs fairs. [Vicky Berdina M. de Guzman]
