Marketing Davao revs up

The Philippine Marketing Association Davao City chapter (PMA-Davao) has introduced new trends in marketing through its video-conferencing, dubbed “Marketing in Hyper-speed,” last June 24-25 at the Cinema 4, Victoria Plaza, J.P. Laurel Avenue, Davao City. The 41st National Marketing Conference 2010 in Metro Manila was broadcast in real-time.
Participated in by sectors from the academe and corporate sector, students, professionals and entrepreneurs in Davao City and Tagum City, the activity was only one of many that PMA-Davao planned for Dabawenyos, according to its president, Jorge N. Marques.
“We want to make marketing juniors—the students—to become active in the community with projects that have impact in the community,” he said. The PMA-Davao is preparing to organize its affiliation called the Federation of Junior Marketing in August, its former president, Merci Duduaco, said.
Duduaco said the resource persons in the conference were certified professional marketers (CPM), who are chief executive officers and experts in the field of marketing, advertising, sales, media, and the academe. Believing that marketing and sales are the lifeblood of any business entity, she said the students will learn from the conference how to be quick in coping with competition.
Further, Marques said the “nursing mentality” is waning because, aside from the difficulty of parents to send their children to nursing schools, there is a gradual decrease in the demand for nurses abroad.  There is a “substantial shift towards classic or traditional courses” like marketing and business administration.
Marques said an interactive and transformative marketing is a lasting one, unlike the plain advertising of a service company, be it on print, television or radio. He said it is a kind of marketing in which the individual is setting a trend which adds value to the lives of people. “Interact with them and transform them,” he said, summarizing his idea of the role of an effective marketing professional.
With over two hundred members, PMA-Davao plans to hold the national marketing conference in Davao City by next year, the first ever since it was founded.  [Lorie Ann A. Cascaro]
