Because they find pleasure and fulfillment in raising animals, the Puentespina family is willing to share the bounty of their farms with others through the Malagos Farm Fair slated on August 7-8 at the 30-hectare Malagos Garden Resort in Baguio District, Davao City.
Farm animals like dairy goats, cows, sheep, cocks, horses, peacocks, pheasants, ostriches, fancy chickens, dogs, and ornamental birds in the farm are up for sale.
“We have decided to open our farm to the public and show interested would-be farmers what it takes to have a cacao farm, a dairy goat and cow operation, the organic fertilizer and vermin-culture project,” Dr. Bo Puentespina said.
During the fair, industry partners will promote and sell their products. There will also be seminars on farming, animal raising, cheese making, while industry updates will be shared. Farm games and adventure race will be organized by Coca Cola, while food tasting will be sponsored by Purefoods to make the whole day more interesting and fun-filled. Also, a guest chef will organize a cooking demonstration for kids.
Puentespina hopes that “the fair will become a regular agriculture tourism event where neighbor farmers can showcase and sell their produce, be it animals, vegetables, fruits, delicacies and crafts.” He also aims to turn Malagos Farm Fair into an alternative destination for weekend family bonding and a wellspring of ideas for future farmers.
Other activities include “chocolate shop talk” by Mars Chocolate, entrepreneurial seminars by BMeg, and presentation of travel destinations by the Philippine Airlines.
This fair will also be filled with valuable knowledge not only about farming as Smart Telecom and DC Tech will showcase communications technology while Hydrock Wells will talk about water resources that Davao City is known for.
In the late afternoon, Swiss Deli with Malagos Farmhouse and Waling flowers will host the wine and cheese appreciation, while San Miguel Beer provides the evening band entertainment.
Aside from participating in all the activities in the fair, a guest will have a lunch buffet of roast beef, barbecue and a drink that goes with the entrance ticket at PhP250. Tickets can be bought at the Waling Flowers at Victoria Plaza and other partner outlets with telephone numbers 221-6344 and 221-1545.
