Martial arts: A lifestyle change

Choosing a martial art to help maintain a healthy body and a healthy mind is one of the best things that can happen to you. There are a lot of excellent choices when considering joining a martial art.  At MetroLifestyle Fitness Center & Spa, people of all ages enjoy learning the art of Bushido-Kai Karate and Muaythai.
An exercise regimen whether a fitness workout or martial arts can seem overwhelming at first because of the commitment and some hard work.   Some classes are intense physically and others are technical, both are required for better results.  MetroLifestyle offers some classes devoted to boosting fitness levels, and at times one can just sit and talk about life and healthier lifestyles.  This is one way to make new friends and make exercise much more fun!
Fitness and Self-Defense Class for Adults teaches the traditional Bushido-Kai Karate to men and women in their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s and above.  In the Japanese tradition, the word Bushido translates to “the way of the warrior.”  The adults class consists of a cardio exercise, muscle strengthening, stretching, teaching the karate weapons (kicks, punch, strikes), and the application for self-defense. Kata is also taught for memory enhancement, coordination, focus, and preservation of the karate tradition.
Success in the martial arts is about positive attitude and training in a balanced program that develops all aspects of fitness – cardio, muscular strength, endurance, balance, power, and flexibility.  Adults’ Fitness and Self-Defense Class is open every Tuesday and Thursday at  9:15-10:30 AM.
Bushido-Kai Karate Little Warriors is a specially-designed karate class for toddlers and kids from 4 to 7 years old. The karate lesson is presented as games to the kids so that they learn karate, at the same time to enjoy this time of learning.  Exercises in the class build the muscles involved in kicking and punching, and aids in building muscle memory in doing karate moves. The classes are supervised by child-friendly instructors in a child-friendly environment at MetroLifestyle every Saturday at 10:30 to 11:30 AM.
Karate Kids and Teens classes are spread all through-out the week to make time for extra-curricular activities after school hours.  Aside from the regular karate classes, students prepare for the two major ABKA (American Bushido-Kai Karate Association)  Karate Tournament every year:  ABKA Philippines Bushido Karate Invitational  Tournament every summer in May, and Octoberfist Tournament this coming October.  OCTOBERFIST is an open invitational karate tournament participated by different style of martial arts with the goal of uniting martial artists through fellowship.  It is also a good venue to test the students’ skills in the martial arts.
OCTOBERFIST is slated on October 16, 2010 at NCCC mall which will include karate kumite (sparring), empty hand kata (forms), long stick and sword kata (traditional and freestyle).  Karate kids and teens, may also join the Muaythai fights alongside with the Muaythai practitioners during this event.
Work your mind and body through Muaythai, a martial arts using the 8 limbs – fists, elbows, knees and feet.  Muaythai Program focuses on fitness, sports and self-defense.
Muaythai is open to Kids/Teens 9 to 18 years old, every Wednesdays at 6:00-7:15 PM, Fridays 5:00-6:15 PM, and Saturdays at 4:30-6:00 PM.  Muaythai Adults class for 18 years old and above is scheduled  T-TH-S at 5:30  to 7:30 PM.   Special classes and personal training is also offered at a set appointment and individual schedules.
