The Hotdogs and the golden years

“Maraming beses na kitang nilayasan, Iniwanan at iba’ang pinuntahan, Parang bababeng ang hirap talagang malimutan, Ikaw lamang ang aking laging binabalikan, (Quiapo Quiapo Quiapo, isa na lang ah, aalis na. Para!)”
Remember the song ‘Manila’? The music behind that 70s video featuring the evocative sights and sounds of the country’s capital that makes Filipinos abroad feel homesick and nostalgic of the good old times back home?
‘Manila’ was one of the hits that topped the charts in the 70s sung by a forerunner of the Manila Sound genre that defined the music in those golden years – The Hotdogs. Created by the Garcia brothers, Rene and Dennis, The Hotdogs gave Filipinos songs that dominated the charts in their heyday.
Now Rene Garcia brings back the same hits in the concert “Manila Sound Project” on November 27 at Camella Northpoint, back to back with other Manila Sound pioneers such as VST & Co., Hagibis, and Spirit of 67.
The songs of this enduring band has been enjoying a revival of late, bringing to life once again all-time favorite hits such as “Rock, Baby, Rock” and “Bitin Sa ‘Yo”, re-interpreted in the compilation album “The Best of Manila Sound: Hopia, Mani, Popcorn”.
As the Manila Sound revival makes a successful run in Metro Manila, The Hotdogs will give Davao its own taste of their unforgettable music when they perform at Camella Northpoint, the up and coming event hotspot in the city.
The Manila Sound Project (MSP) concert will feature original artists of four Manila Sound bands, namely Rene Garcia of The Hotdogs, Sonny Parsons of Hagibis, Male Rigor of VST & Co., and Maso Diez of Spirit of 67. Beloved classics such as Panaginip, Bongga Ka ‘Day, Ipagpatawad Mo, Swing, and Ikaw ang Miss Universe ng Buhay Ko, and many more will be part of the repertoire.
The Manila Sound concert is supported by Safecon, BPI Credit Cards, BDO Home Loans, Manila Beer, Mang Inasal, Prime Billboards & Ads, Inch Design, Aseya Bistro and Hotel Tropika, official residence of MSP. Media partners are GMA, HomeChannel, and Edge Davao.
Tickets are limited and sold at only P500 apiece.  For tickets and inquiries, call Anna, Lucy, or Mau at 298-0387 and 298-0300 or visit Camella Communities at G/F Karpentrade Bldg., McArthur Highway, Matina, or at the Marketing Kiosk at Camella Northpoint, J.P.Laurel Ave., Bajada, Davao City.
