MEMBERS of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCCI) Inc elected Saturday five new members and then elected a lady physician as next year’s president. Unanimously elected is Dr. Malou Monteverde, the third female leader of the 40-year old chamber, founded by Ambassador Ramon Tirol, former ambassador to Brunei and senior vice president of the 1971 Constitutional Convention.
The other two woman presidents are entrepreneur Joji Ilagan-Bian and banker Delia Mercado-Ladao. Monteverde, who belongs to the Garcia family of doctors of Calinan, is an obstetrician-gynecologist who is incumbent president of the Davao Medical Society. She is married to Tomas J. Monteverde III, also a physician. She has been an officer of the chamber, leading some of its impact projects.
Two-time DCCCI president John Gaisano was also elected chairman. Other officers are: Antonio dela Cruz, exec vice pres; Patrick de Castro, vp trade and commerce; Napoleon Liloc, vp industry; Robert “Boyet” Quinto, who opted not to run for president again, vp for agriculture; Corazon Baylon, vp professional and service ventures; Lizabel “Wit” Holganza, corporate secretary; Myrna Valdez, corporate treasurer; and Nelia Tumarao, Jose Puentespina, Daniel Lim, Wilfred Teves, Amelia Bonifacio and former president bienvenido Cariaga, members of the board of trustees.
