Kalilangan 2011 will be run by the Mindanao State University (MSU), in partnership with the government of General Santos City.
In a press conference last February 1, MSU Chancellor Atty. Abdurahman Canacan told media that the week-long celebration will showcase the city’s economic activity, tourism and culture. He said that the festival will give recognition to the arrival of the first batcher of settlers and their contributions as pioneers. He added that most of the activities will be held at the Oval Plaza which will be secured by the Philippine National Police and other support groups.
Mayor Darlene Magnolia R. Antonino-Custodio said the celebration will showcase among others the historic arrival of Gen. Paulino Santos at the helm of the first boatload of settlers as well as diverse cultures of the people who make up the constituents of the city and adjacent areas.
The mayor also gave due recognition to the partnership of the City Government and Mindanao State University by pointing out that this time “MSU is a partner and not just a participant.” [CPIO/Ping Aponesto]
