Do you ride a bicycle? Are you a resident of Davao City but haven’t got the chance to bike around the main city streets with a group of people? Now is your chance.
Join cyclists, young and old, males and females, professional and amateur bikers as they gather for a fun ride dubbed “Let’s Bike Davao!” on March 13, a Sunday. Organized by RISE (Resources, Ideas, Systems and Events) Management, this biking event aims to gather as many bike riding people as possible for a worthy cause.
The main objectives of this activity are to support Davao City’s first biking ordinance authored by former Councilor Leo Avila and approved last April 2010, to promote the bicycle as an environment-friendly mode of transportation, and cycling as a healthy form of exercise. Davao City has high hopes that it will have its dedicated bicycle lanes in the future and the passing of the Biking Ordinance was the right step towards achieving this goal.
“Let’s Bike Davao!” is open to all Davao City residents who ride bicycles of any type. Families, couples, individuals are welcome to take part. Kids seven years old and above can join as well but need to be accompanied by their parents if possible. This will run for six months (once every month) culminating in August in time for the yearly Kadayawan Festival. This biking activity has also been included as one of the major events of the City Government’s first month-long Tourism Festival scheduled this month of May.
“Let’s Bike Davao!” is not going to be a race but a fun ride at normal pace involving as many cyclists as possible at one time. It will start at Damosa in Lanang and will pass through JP Laurel Ave. proceeding to Ponciano towards City Hall. From City Hall, the activity will proceed to People’s Park where a program including exciting challenges and prizes await the participants. There will also be two stopover points within the route.
