The country’s largest run-of-river hydropower developer Hedcor, Inc. was recognized as a finalist in this year’s Kapatiran sa Industriya or KAPATID. Nominated by the Department of Labor and Employment – CAR, this is Hedcor’s first try at the KAPATID Awards. Hedcor received its trophy from Vice president Jejomar Binay on May 4, 2011.
The KAPATID Awards is a biennial event of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP). The award aims to provide national recognition to companies that exemplify the best workplace policies and programs highlighted by industrial peace and harmony; quality and productivity; social accountability and strategic visioning and partnership for business and job survival.
Over 20 nominees underwent an executive committee screening of the ECOP with only 11 making it to the finals.
Apart from the KAPATID awards, Hedcor has also been widely recognized for its initiatives in occupational health and safety. A three-time Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan Awardee, Hedcor was awarded the Labor Secretary’s Award last year as well as its safety officer Jose Tabanda who received the Individual Award. For its zero lost time incidents from accidents, Hedcor also received the Safety Milestone Award of 2010.
A wholly-owned subsidiary of AboitizPower, Hedcor owns and operates a total of 17 run-of-river hydropower plants in Benguet and Davao with a total capacity of 80.9 MWs.
