An SMX convention center similar to the one within the Mall of Asia in Manila and a Radisson hotel much like the one in Cebu will rise in Lanang to complete the SM Lanang complex set to its doors within next year.
SMX Davao Convention Center will be the biggest convention center by SM Hotels and Convention Corporation and set to rise in a 5,400-square meter lot in the 10-hectare SM Lanang complex..
SM Hotels and Conventions vice president for marketing and sales Lourdes Macalindong told reporters that SMX Davao is part of the company’s vision to enhance the tourism industry in the city and other parts of Davao region.
The center has three halls with a capacity of 700 to 1,000 persons and two function rooms with a capacity of 90 to 190 persons and a three meeting rooms with a capacity of 30 to 100 persons..
SMX is targeted for inauguration sometime in the second quarter of 2012, just a few months before the MICE (Meetings Incentives Convention Exhibition) conference to be held for the first time in Davao City in 2013.
Macalindong said SMX Davao is designed by Abesamis and Guerrero Architects.
Also to be constructed is the Park Inn Hotel by Radisson Brand. With a construction budget of P800 million, the eight-storey affair will house 198 regular rooms with king (two of which are handicapped guestrooms) and queen beds and six suites.
Completing the hotel amenities will be a lobby lounge, an all- day food outlet with outdoor seating, four meeting rooms, fitness center, and a swimming pool and kiddie pool.
The hotel is designed by GF and Partners Architects and the interior by Steven Leach and Associates.
Park Inn by Radisson is a global brand with 117 hotels worldwide and 49 hotels under development as of March this year.
The brand aims to attract a mix of corporate business and leisure travelers by offering guests a mix of relevant amenities dubbed “Park Inn Essentials” such as high-speed internet, fitness and business centers, restaurants or complimentary lite “grab and go” breakfast, and a signature bedding package allowing guests to experience the “sleep well live well” brand tagline.
